Medical Safety

What Niva can and cannot do

Niva offers general pregnancy education and wellness support. It does not diagnose symptoms, replace a clinician, or provide emergency care. Last updated June 22, 2026.

Urgent concerns: If you have severe pain, heavy bleeding, trouble breathing, thoughts of self-harm, or any emergency concern, contact local emergency services or your care team immediately.

Education Only

Public Niva Reads explains pregnancy topics in plain language. It can help you prepare questions, understand general concepts, and notice when a care-team conversation may be appropriate. It cannot tell you what is happening in your body.

Not Medical Advice

Niva does not provide diagnosis, treatment, medication advice, clinical risk scoring, lab interpretation, or personalized emergency guidance. Your doctor, midwife, dietitian, or other qualified clinician remains the right source for personal medical decisions.

How Niva Handles Sensitive Topics

  • We use conservative wording for symptoms and medical interpretation.
  • We include care notes when a topic could affect personal decisions.
  • We avoid turning general articles into instructions for a specific reader.
  • We do not use mascot art as the voice of medical warnings or clinical authority.

When To Ask Your Care Team

Ask your care team when symptoms are new, severe, sudden, persistent, worrying, or different from what your clinician told you to expect. If you are unsure whether something is urgent, it is safer to contact a qualified clinician or local urgent/emergency service than to rely on a website.
