Where Niva is different
These are facts about Niva Pregnancy Wellness, not comparisons of quality. Other apps may offer some of the same things.
- Food ideas for your week. Niva suggests food ideas matched to your week's nutrient focus, such as folate early on and choline, DHA and calcium in weeks 32 to 36. Each week's focus is on its own page, from week 1 to week 42.
- Food label scan. Scan a packaged food to log its nutrition details. Free Basics includes 3 food checks a week, counting food searches and barcode lookups together.
- Visit questions. Keep a list of questions for your next visit. Questions you write yourself are always free; Free Basics shows 1 suggested question a week and Niva Plus shows them all.
- Calm practices and gentle movement. Short calm and movement sessions. Free Basics includes 1 mindfulness session and 1 exercise session a week.
- Kick counter. A kick counter opens from week 24.
- Free, source-backed Reads. Week-by-week Reads on meetniva.com, linked to sources such as ACOG, NIH and the CDC.
Free to download. Optional Niva Plus: in the US, $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with a 7-day trial for eligible accounts. Niva Pregnancy Wellness is an iPhone app (iOS 15 or later), available in the US and Canada, in English.
Where other apps may suit you better
- Ratings: the larger apps show hundreds of thousands of App Store ratings (What to Expect shows 380K and Flo 2M). Niva is new and has only a few so far.
- Android: Niva is iPhone only. What to Expect, BabyCenter, The Bump, Ovia and Flo link Android versions from their own websites.
- Community: Niva's App Store page does not describe a community. What to Expect, BabyCenter, Glow Nurture and Flo list community features, and Peanut is built around one.
- After birth: Niva covers pregnancy only. Several apps, including What to Expect, BabyCenter and Ovia, continue into postpartum or baby tracking.
- 3D visuals: Niva does not offer 3D baby models. BabyCenter, The Bump, Pregnancy+ and Sprout list them.
- Languages and countries: Niva is in English, in the US and Canada. Flo lists 21 languages and Pregnancy+ 14.
